HIV/Aids charity run Kampala is here Be the first to comment!

Let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. Hebrews 12:1

Mark the date: 2nd December 2017 is the D-day. The much awaited 2nd edition of the HIV/ AIDS Kampala run to support Children affected by HIV/ Aids in our community is here. You cannot afford to miss this run. Last year’s run was awesome.

The early down pour did not kill the mood. At about 6:40 am, the Chief runner Mr. Richard Byarugaba, MD NSSF, flagged off the race. The children were flagged first. It was great seeing so many children present and participating in the health run. Thereafter, the Ten Kilometer run was flagged. The competitive spirits of the runners was very high. I tried my best to run. It is not easy to keep up pace with young runners when you have been eating chicken and chips and beers without constant exercise regime. The Ismail rise hill joining to Ismail road is one of the hardest huddles to conquer. Almost all runners, if not all, walked at some point on that hill. It is very challenging indeed.

To increase your chances of winning the race, you need to try the race route at least once. To this end, the parish priest has organized weekly Saturday runs at that place after the morning mass. You are all encouraged to attend. These weekly runs will continue every Saturday after the morning mass even after the run on 2nd December.

Come 2nd December, 2017, next Saturday, there will be a 2.5km run for the children, 5 km run and the main 10km run for adults. The 2.5km run for children remains the same as last year; the little ones will run from Church onto the Old Portbell road and branch off at Solent Avenue to Ismail Rise then climb up to Ismail road and back to Church.

The 5km and 10km routes have changed as follows:

  1. For the 5km race, run will set off at the Church, then run along the Old Port bell, Nakawa-Luzira road and branch off at Kitintale stage through Kintu road to join the Kireka road at Kunya, then run down along Kireka road and branch off up the street after the former Soap Factory towards former Red Chilli onto Solent avenue, then turn right to join Ismail rise, run up to Ismail road and back to Church.
  2. For the 10km route, run will set off at the Church, then run along the Old Portbell, Nakawa-Luzira road and branch off at Luzira Stage 7 and take the turn towards Luzira SS then branch off to the lower Church road opposite Luzira SS towards Biina Church/ Binna stage through Mutungo road to Kunya stage then run down along the Kireka road and branch off up using the Ismail rise onto Ismail road and back to Church.

The routes have been changed to help parishioners understand the community better as well as reaching out to other places.

In future, the Run plans to involve other Churches to join in the cause. This is your opportunity to support the Church by showing up and running. Invite your family. Don’t leave the children behind.

Remember, it is better to run with others than alone. That way you go far. Life is not a sprint. It is a marathon. As they say, to go far run with others. And that is why you should join us this coming Saturday. See you there.
