Theme: Come Holy Spirit

Today, as Church, we celebrate all our birth day in faith. Despite the challenges, failures and tests, the endurance of discipleship has made us witness that Jesus is alive. With this conviction; the Church survives and even thrives! Unlike the survivors of televised notoriety who go it alone, we know that the endurance, perseverance keeps us together as a Church due to the Holy Spirit who does not permit us to be relegated to distant memory or closed away in history’s book. The Holy Spirit instead empowers the Church to be pertinent, relevant and ever attentive to the changing circumstances that call forth its best efforts at service at speaking truth and making known the good news.

Theme: God is one with us

The angel said to Joseph in a dream ‘do not be afraid’. This exhortation against fear, preserved in today’s Gospel, enabled Joseph to shake off what must have been frightening worries about Mary, about the coming child, about the need to do the right thing by his pregnant wife, as well as follow the law and keep the curious and the judgmental at bay.  The exhortations ‘do not be afraid’ occurs 80 times in the bible. Each time, the one who hears these words is assured that God is greater than any fear and that there is indeed a remedy to fear. God told Abraham to “fear not” Genesis 15:1 before making a covenant with him. Gabriel said the same to Daniel in the book of Daniel 10:12 when he was terrified by a vision.

Theme: Come Holy Spirit

Today, as Church, we celebrate all of us who have survived together as a community in this world. Despite the challenges, failures and tests of endurance that living in this world as Jesus’ disciples may present; the Church survives and even thrives! Unlike the survivors of televised notoriety who go it alone, we know that the endurance, perseverance and continued survival of the Church is due to the Holy Spirit who does not permit the Church to be relegated to distant memory or closed away in history’s book. The Holy Spirit instead empowers the Church to be pertinent, relevant and ever attentive to the changing circumstances that call forth its best efforts at service, at speaking truth and making known the good news.

Theme: The Mystery of unity of God is our gift

What is the meaning of the Trinity? Today is Trinity Sunday but remember that every Sunday is a feast day of the Trinity and an occasion to celebrate one God. What does the word ‘Trinity’ mean? Does it mean that God is a mystery? God is visible, yet mystery of faith! The root of the word “Trinity” originates from the Latin word ‘trini’ which means ‘three each,’ or ‘threefold.’ The term has been used as early as the days of Tertullian to denote the central doctrine of the Christian religion. Trinity means that in Jesus dwells the Father and the Holy Spirit. And the same can be said about the Father and the Holy Spirit. In each one dwells the other two Persons of God.
