Epiphany2018

Theme:  The right star

One thing is to have a vision and a star that guides another thing to share that vision because your star is real and universal with a possibility of being realized. Epiphany with its star and wise people from afar is a day that allows wisdom to guide our common mission of discovering baby Jesus amidst our uncertainties. Epiphany is a day when children become missionaries by requesting them be generous in helping fellow children in need anywhere in the world.

Theme: Light of Day

Today, the Christians world over celebrate a mother and the Son to whom she has given birth. This unique baby is the messiah, Jesus Christ in whom God has come to dwell among us. Through him all darkness that had previously threatened to overwhelm humankind is now on notice.  Light has come to birth, the strong hold of night has been broken.

Theme:  All nations have seen his salvation

In life never to be silent when human beings are enduring suffering and humiliation. There is so much to be done; there is so much that even one person can do. With the feast of Epiphany we are invited to be that one person who can do something, however small it may appear to dispel darkness that enshrouds others. In today’s first reading, Prophet Isaiah describes the chasing away of Israel’s night in terms of a great parade of nations coming to bask in the light of Jerusalem, made glorious and luminous by the salvific presence of God. In a similarly dramatic fashion, the Gospel of Matthew relates the story of the Magi traveling from the east, led by a star to pay homage to Jesus the light of the world. What Isaiah and Matthew envision on a grand scale, each of us is challenged to replicate on a smaller but efficient level.
