Theme: The truth in the cost of discipleship

The cost of discipleship is set of truth before us as the praying assembly every time we gather around the word of God. This truth, told through many generations and in various accents, has been shaped and colored by a multiplicity of different experiences and motivations. Because the truth is often hard to hear, quite difficult to assimilate and challenging to translate into words and deeds, it is sometimes rejected, is regularly ignored and even more frequently is relegated to a sort of waiting room of our lives until such time as that truth might become more convenient or less disturbing.

Principles of catholic social teaching

Written by

Definition of the Social Teaching of the Church

The entire teaching of the ecclesiastical Magisterium which applies revealed truth and Christian moral principles to the social order is called the social teaching of the Church. It applies the Gospel message to social reality. The purpose of the Church’s social teaching is to present to humanity God’s plan for secular reality. It enlightens people’s minds with truth and guides them in building up the earthly city according to the divine plan.

1. The light of Faith is how the Church’s tradition speaks of the great gift brought by Jesus. In John’s Gospel it is written, “I have come as light into the world, that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness” John 12:46. Saint Paul uses the same image: “God who said ‘let light shine out of darkness,’ has shone in our hearts” 2Corinthians 4:6. Conscious of the immense horizon which their faith opened before them, Christians invoked Jesus as the true sun “whose rays bestow life” Clement of Alexandria, Protrepticus, IX: PG 8, 195.

You ought to have a role model

Written by

Most of the times, we are caught between a rock and a hard place thinking over who we need in our lives. Today, I think we are blessed with so much that we are often spoilt for choice. However, the parish day did open a number of eyes to aid us in this search that seems endless.

Managing your family finances

James P. Kigozi Jr. plans to wed his sweetheart in July 2013. As a former workmate and mentor to James, the two visited me at home. They said they wanted me to know about their decision to become one.

I get proud of young people who chose to get married. As I always advise people in my private mentor Programme, you have three critical events in your life – birth, marriage and death. At birth, your parents, especially your mother, take care of you. You don’t know anything and you therefore don’t enjoy. At death, you cease to exist forever. Anything you have not accomplished, you will never do. At least in this world. You only have one event you can be in charge – your marriage. It is a milestone event in your life because it changes your perspectives. It is a foundation for a great family. Behind any great (wo)man there is a wonderful partner.

Seek reconciliation and peace to obtain true peace.

The Assumption of our lady fills us with great joy and encourages us along the way still remaining before we reach heaven. Seeing the happy conclusion of the Blessed Virgin Mary’s life, we understand the joy of being faithful each day.
