St. Kizito Secondary School Bugolobi was founded in March 1997 by the Comboni Fathers of Mbuya Parish. It is located strategically in the Centre of the mult-lingual/ethnic surrounding of Our Lady of Africa, Mbuya Parish.

Educate for human transformation and Excellence.

Dare to be Wise

To offer holistic, quality and affordable education.

Objectives are to:

  • give service to the community;
  • maintain a religious character;
  • Promote intellectual and social values.

The catchment area of the school covers, Mbuya, Bugolobi, Gizagiza, Kiswa, Lower Kitintale, Kataza, Kinawataka, Acholi –Quarters

The majority of the children in this school comprise of:

  • Orphans of AIDS scourge: some of these children are ‘child heads’ of the family, looking after their siblings;
  • Children living with HIV;
  • Immigrants from the war-torn northern region of Uganda. Many of these children have come to the school with lives traumatizes by the brutalities of the war.
  • Children of the majority poor of this parish. Some of these people live in extreme poverty whereby the only meal a child takes is at times the school meal.
  • Children of the low wage earners- most of whom pay fees in fractions.

The school is registered by the Ministry of Education and Sports as a Mixed, Day and Boarding. It is also registered by Uganda National Examinations Board as an examination Centre for ‘O’ and ‘A’ Levels. The boarding section was opened in 2004 partially as a result of requests from sponsorship organizations that opted to give children better chances of settling for their books.

The Parish Priest is assisted by a Board of 15 Governors who guide the school in policy and technical matters.

Population growth:

The school opened with one stream of 14 students. By the end of the first term of 1997, the number shot up to 40. In the first year, we had only one stream, thereafter, each class had two streams. Currently, there are 926 students, 37 full-time teachers and 7 part-time teachers.

The school has registered great success in the following;

The school enrolls average students; however, the academic progress registered is satisfactory. A non-segregated approach is used in the selection process of the students who join the school.

Capacity building:

Deliberate schemes have been designed to develop the leadership potential of the students. Teachers’ capacities have been built through various courses and exposures.

The school curriculum has been expanded and seventeen subjects are taught with eight of them being compulsory at U.C.E.

  • Excellence in all that we do.
  • Skills for self –reliance to be taught through practical subjects such as, Agriculture, etc.
  • IT literacy to be spread in the whole lower secondary while specializing in higher school.
  • Environment conservation for sustainable development.

Many people have generously contributed to the growth of this School:

We give credit to the various non- Governmental Organizations that have tirelessly supported the less endowed students by providing School fees.

There are other organizations that have supported the academic progress of this school by providing scholastic requirements, equipment or developing the capacity of the staff for better performance.

Friends of Mbuya and well-wishers have often responded to our appeals for support, especially towards the development of the infrastructure in the school. People who have never seen St. Kizito always have faith when they hear the “Legend” of this School; they go along way into making material/financial sacrifices for the sake of St. Kizito.

We need to recognize the work of the Board of Governors whose tireless efforts made it possible for the school to ascend to the present status.

They gave quality critical guidance, which steered the school to the present status.

In spite of all the efforts that have been registered in the report above, we have not yet reached at the level of our dream. It is our desire to move toward accessibility of essential requirements for holistic education. Then this will propel the School towards providing service through education with excellence.
