St. Andrew Kaggwa Sub-Parish Bugolobi currently comprises; Bugolobi Flats, Block 1 -33, Bugolobi Bangalows ( Residential Houses ), St.Kizito Schools’ Complex and Bugolobi Market. Formerly, Bugolobi had two Sub-Parishes i.e. Bugolobi Flats Sub- Parish and  Bugolobi Residences’ Bangalows Sub-Parish. These were formed in the 1980s under the leadership of Rev. Fr. George Previdi as a Parish Priest.

Bugolobi Flats Sub-Parish

This used to have Mass every 2nd Sunday of the month, Adoration once a month and Holy Rosary every Sunday in the Bungalows rotating in homes.

St. Andrew Kaggwa Bugolobi Flats Sub - Parish started under a mango tree between Blocks 1- 9, then moved under another tree in front of Block 13 and later to Lydia Macchi Youth Center.

Some of the activities held were:

  • Having Mass every 3rd Sunday of the month.
  • Adoration every Thursday
  • Rosary every Sunday

St. Andrew Kaggwa Bugolobi   Sub-Parish is where everyone would love to belong.

Those days, Bugolobi was occupied by Civil Servants and Diplomats and transfers were inevitable. Christians   were therefore, in and out year after year. This greatly affected the performance of the Sub-Parish and the situation worsened when the National Housing Corporation sold off the flats and the Bangalows where many Christians were unable to pay, hence leaving the premises. In the event of all this, the Sub-Parish lost many Christians.

We cannot forget the efforts of Mr. Anatoli Barugahare who worked tirelessly to make the Sub-Parish stand until he shifted to Lweza. The decline of this Sub-Parish started but it had been gradual.

We cannot also forget   the efforts of   Mrs. Catherine Rwanika who replaced Mr. Anatoli Barugahare to strive on for the good of the Sub-Parish until such a time when she shifted to Kyambogo.Unfortunately, after Mrs. Catherine Rwanika had shifted to Kyambogo no replacement was made in Leadership and to this effect; no more activities were performed in the Sub-Parish leading to the collapse of the Sub-Parish.

Revival of St. Andrew Kaggwa Sub-Parish

Towards the end of the year 2010, during the Advent Popular Mission, the Christians felt the need to revive the two Sub-Parishes and since the number had greatly declined, they agreed to combine the two Sub-Parishes and have one named St. Andrew Kaggwa Bugolobi Sub-Parish. On 10th April 2011, elections for the Sub-Parish Pastoral Committee were made and an Executive Committee was formed.

Activities

The Catechist and other members mostly teachers of this Sub-Parish actively participate in the Catechism Classes at St. Kizito Primary School preparing the children for the Sacraments e.g. First Holy Communion and Confirmation then Christian commitment every Saturday during the term and daily during holidays.

We have Mass every 1st Sunday of the month in Lydia Macchi Youth Centre.

The Legionaries and the Sisters from the two congregations in our Sub-Parish i.e. Evangelizing Sisters of Mary and the sisters of Mary Mother of the Church have done a tremendous work of continuously making home to home visits; reciting the Holy Rosary during the month of May and October respectively.

They also share the word of God with the people of the community regardless of their faith during Lent and Advent Popular Missions.

Visiting members especially; those experiencing problems and difficulties and Pray with them.

To create awareness to the teachers of our two schools that they belong to this Sub-Parish and to encourage them participate in Sub-Parish activities.

This helps motivate faith, unity, love for one another and building up good morals amongst them.

Achievements

St. Andrew Kaggwa Sub-Parish has been revived gradually.

We had a colourful celebration for the Sub-Parish   Patron’s Feast Day. As part of the celebration and giving thanks to God, we visited Nalukolongo and donated some relief items to the poor and needy people there. We also visited missionaries of the poor in Kisenyi.

The Sub-Parish   facilitated   the   Catechist   to go to Kibiri Parish and   joined other Catechists for the Annual Retreat.

The Catholic Women’s Guild   spearheaded the revival of the Women’s Guild and a colourful Deanery Catholic Women’s Guild celebrations were held at the Parish.

During this year, two more members of our Sub-Parish were elected unanimously to the Parish Executive Committee to make four members in total on the Parish Pastoral Executive Committee.

These   are:

1. Ms. Nakitende   Margaret                        –      Secretary

2. Mrs. Mary Immaculate Mayende              -       Treasurer

3. Dr. Paul Kasenene                                 -       Caritas

4. Mrs. Florence Mugisha                            -       Women’s Guild

The Catholic Women’s Guild has been active in the Sub-Parish and has spearheaded the revival of the Catholic Women’s Guild at the Parish level.
