Pope Francis appoints Rev. Vincent Kirabo new Bishop of Hoima Be the first to comment!

Pope Francis has appointed Rev. Vincent KIRABO, Professor at St. Mary’s Major Seminary in Ggaba, as the new Bishop of Hoima.

The appointment comes in just a day after the Holy father left Uganda for the Central African republic in his five day Visit of Africa.

Bishop-elect Kirabo was born on October 1st, 1955. After primary school in Kahunde and secondary school at St. John Bosco Minor Seminary, Hoima, he began philosophical studies at the Uganda Martyrs’ National Major Seminary Aloculum in Gulu. After having completed theological studies at St. Mary’s National Seminary in Ggaba, he was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Hoima on 9th September 1979.

Bishop-elect Kirabo has served as teacher at St. John Bosco Minor Seminary, Hoima (1979-1988), Director of the Diocesan Commission for Vocations (1985-1988), Vicar at Muhorro Parish (1990), Rector of S. John Bosco Minor Seminary in Hoima (1991-1992), Diocesan Financial Administrator (1992-1997), Parish Priest of Buseesa Parish (1998-2003), Parish Priest of Katulikire Parish (2007-2008), Professor and Financial Administrator of Uganda Martyrs’ National Major Seminary Alokuum (2008-2012), Professor at St. Mary’s National Major Seminary Ggaba (2012 till present).

Bishop-elect Kirabo holds a Masters in Education from the University of Portland, USA (1990) and a Licentiate in Biblical Theology from the Urban University in Rome (2007).

"Let us join in fervent prayer for Bishop-elect Kirabo that he will be guided and strengthened by the wisdom and courage of the Holy Spirit to discharge with fidelity and joy his new mission", H.E Michael August Blume, Papal Nuncio said in a statement he issued to the Catholic media houses today.

At the same time, we thank Rt. Rev. Lambert Bainomugisha, Auxiliary of Mbarara and, since 2009, Apostolic Administrator of Hoima.
