Your Eminence Cardinal Emmanuel Wamala

My Brothers and Sisters, the Parishioners of Our Lady of Africa Mbuya Parish

The parish day  14th august  2016  - the assumption of our lady

Tubeere bakisa nga Kitaffe ow’omu ggulu bwali ow’ekisa

Be merciful as your heavenly father is merciful

In this Feast, we are celebrating Mary’s Assumption into heaven where she shares fully in the glory attained by Jesus her son. It was through Mary that Jesus came to birth among us. As she did at Cana in Galilee, Mary continues to intercede on our behalf. She helps us in our struggle to believe in our human and divine dignity and to live a life that befits that dignity. And with her help and the grace of God, we can hope to share in her glory and the glory of her son in heaven.

Day of thanks giving to God

Dear Parishioners, today is a day of thanks giving to God. We thank God for the gift of his son our Lord Jesus Christ. The Church begun when Jesus gathered a group of disciples, led by Peter and taught them a new way of life. The church is the community of people who, because they have received the spirit, believe in Jesus and follow him. Therefore we are the Church, the continuing presence of Jesus Christ on earth. We have received grace upon grace during this year and in this celebration we express our gratitude.

The religious presence in our Parish

Our parish is blessed by a good presence of the religious. We thank God for the Comboni  Sisters, Evangelising Sisters of Mary, the little Sisters of Mary Immaculate of Gulu, Sisters of Mary mother of the church, the Sacred heart sisters, without forgetting the Sacred Heart Sisters and Guadalupana Servants of Christ, the priest who serve at the Nunciature. We thank all the religious for the good work and the witness they give in our Parish.

Spiritual journey of the laity

We thank God for the Parishioners that have made a step in their spiritual journey. We particularly congratulate those who have received the sacrament of confirmation.  Thank you for the effort that you put in this journey of faith. We thank the parents who encouraged you on the way and the catechists who patiently with many sacrifices shared their faith with you.

Conclusion

Your Eminence and Dear Parishioners, the foundation stone of this church was blessed by Pope Paul the VI on his first historical visit to Africa in 1969 however the Comboni Missionaries had already a small chapel where they were administering to the Italians in Kampala from 1960. The Comboni Missionaries were later asked to start a Parish by the then Bishop of Nsambya; Vicent Billington so as to give spiritual care to the many people who were coming from northern Uganda to Kampala to look for jobs after independence in 1962. The Present Church was consecrated by His Eminence Cardinal Emmanuel Nsubuga in 1970 and given the title of OUR LADY OF AFRICA meaning that this parish is under the Patronage and protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary whom we celebrate today. We continue to ask our Lady for her motherly love and intercession which she has always provided.

Our gratitude to you all Dear parishioners, the Religious, the leaders of the people, the lay apostalate movements, the wonderful Choirs, the Parish executive and the Parish Council members, Board members of ReachOut, the Board of St.Kizito S.S Bugolobi, Management of St.Kizito P.School Bugolobi, the Christians from Banda, Kinawataka, St.Zuria, Kiswa Nakawa,Bugolobi and Mbuya centre. May Mbuya parish continue to be a vibrant and welcoming faith community.

Thank you and God bless you.

Your Servants,
