Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

It is again new year. The old has come to an end. God is renewing His yes to us as individuals but also as a parish community. He is giving us a new opportunity to see Him at work in our lives. It is in His presence that we live and move. Let us embrace this new year with joy.

At the being of this new year as a journey, we have only the promise of a faithful God who can never betray Himself. His name is Immanuel, God with us. Let us not allow our past mistakes and failures hinder us from embracing the future with all the surprises that God has in store for us. It is not bad to reflect on the past year and implore God to show us our areas of sin and weakness that might have hindered our spiritual growth. If at all we recognize mistakes in our past, let us have the courage not to repeat them. As human beings, weak as we are, we shall certainly make mistakes, but let us at least make new ones. If one repeats mistakes, then they can become addictions which hold one in captivity. I, therefore, invite you to have firm and realistic resolutions for this new year. The first and, in fact, the essential one is to allow our desires be bent to His divine will and remain faithful to God’s purpose. May the Lord bless all the plans we have for the new year so that we may glorify Him by our lives as individual Christians and as a parish community. May our Mother, Our Lady of Africa guide every step we are to take and always remind us to do what Her Son tells us!

I wish you all a Christ-accompanied journey in the new year 2020.
