The Comboni Missionaries’ Journey to Uganda
In 1910, Bishop Francis Xavier Geyer and two companions, Fr. Albino Colombaroli and Bro. Cagol, embarked on a challenging journey to Uganda, following in the footsteps of St. Daniel Comboni. Despite facing numerous obstacles, including reluctance from British officers and harsh terrain, they persevered, driven by their mission to spread the Gospel.
Arrival and Establishment
Upon arrival, they were welcomed by the British Commissioner, Paul Hannington, and began building their mission station at Koba, near present-day Pakwach. The missionaries were impressed by the religious fervor of the local people, who had already been baptized in the south and were eager to learn.

Challenges and Triumphs
The early days were marked by numerous challenges, including language barriers, harsh climate, poverty, and government restrictions. Despite these obstacles, the missionaries remained steadfast, encouraged by their faith and brotherly charity. They established a school, learned local languages, and began evangelizing the community.
