Welcome to the Little Sisters of Mary Immaculate of Gulu
We are a congregation of Catholic Sisters dedicated to serving the most vulnerable, especially women, children, youth, the disabled, and the aged. Our mission is to witness to the love of Jesus Christ through education, health, pastoral, and social services.
Our Charism: Burning Love for the VulnerableOur motto, “Light in Darkness,” guides us in bringing hope and love to those who need it most. We strive to address the spiritual, physical, social, and moral needs of the poor and vulnerable.
Our Story
Founded in 1939 by Bishop Angelo Negri and Mother Angeiletta Dognini, our congregation has grown to over 500 Sisters serving worldwide. Despite facing hardships, our Sisters have persevered with passion, dedication, and prayer.
We welcome young women from good Catholic families who are physically fit, educated, and feel called to religious life. Our formation process includes aspirancy, postulancy, novitiate, and religious profession.
Missionary Activities
Our professed Sisters are trained in various fields and assigned to serve in communities. In Mbuya, our 6 Sisters work in administration, education, and medical fields, primarily at Our Lady of Africa Mbuya Nursery School.
Our Nursery School
Founded in 1972, our nursery school provides quality education and training to children aged 3-6 at an affordable cost. We also offer daycare services for children below 3 years. Annually, we commission around 100 children to primary level, many of whom go on to make a positive impact in their communities.
The Formation Processes.
We recruit Girls of good catholic family background and repute, physically fit, O’level or A’level certificates with good grades and performances, we also consider those who have completed Tertiary Institutions who feel the vocation to join religious life. The stages are; – Aspirancy 2years, Postulancy 1year, Novitiate 2years and then when found worthy, the candidate is admitted to religious profession.
Missionary Activities.
The professed Sisters are trained in the fields or professions of their choices or interests which becomes the key area of evangelization and apostolate and thereafter they are assigned to serve in the communities. Every year on the 7th of January the sisters are given appointment and transfer letters basing on different needs.
Here in Mbuya community for now we have 6 Sisters, who are trained in the fields of Administration, Education and Medical and we majorly carry out our apostolate in Our Lady of Africa Mbuya Nursery. This Nursery school was founded by Comboni Missionary Sisters in 1972 and later on, handed over to the management of the Little Sisters of Mary Immaculate of Gulu, with the main goal of providing all- round quality education and training to Children of 3 to 6 years of age at a lower cost in comparison to other intuitions of the same form. The School has also opened up daycare section for Children below 3 three years given the ever-increasing need. Annually we commission approximately 100 Children to primary level and many of the Children that passed from this Nursery School are successful and creating a lot of positive impact in the various sectors and societies they are leaving in.
