Welcome to the Focolare Movement
We are a global family of over 2 million people in 182 countries, united by our shared values of love, unity, and mutual respect. Our movement was founded in 1943 by Chiara Lubich and is officially recognized by the Catholic Church.
Our Mission
Inspired by Jesus’ prayer “May they all be one” (Jn 17:21), we aim to spread the message of unity worldwide. Our members come from diverse backgrounds, including different Christian denominations, world religions, and no particular religious belief.
Our History
The Focolare Movement arrived in Uganda in the 1960s through Fr. Tamel and Fr. Kalibbala. Today, we have communities across the country, with a strong presence in Kampala, Masaka, and other regions.
Our Achievements
– Formation of new communities and vocations
– Ecumenical dialogue and collaboration with other Christian denominations
– Social and charitable initiatives, including education, healthcare, and economic empowerment
– Environmental care and youth programs
Challenges and Future Plans
We face challenges such as low vocations, economic crisis, and secularism. However, we’re committed to deepening our ecumenical journey, promoting family and youth apostolate, and engaging in structural projects.

If you’re inspired by our mission and values, we invite you to join us. Together, let’s build a united world, one community at a time.

We have been blessed with leaders who have guided us on our journey, including Chiara Lubich, Fr. Tamel, Fr. Kalibbala, and many others.
Our Future
As we celebrate our diamond jubilee in 2025, we look forward to deepening our unity with our Centre in Rome and Nairobi, promoting family and youth apostolate, and engaging in structural projects.
