Laudato Si Center Comboni Uganda (Lscc – Ug)

Laudato Si Center Comboni Uganda (Lscc – Ug)

The Laudato Si Centre Comboni Uganda (LSCC) is a Catholic organization that was started in Kampala by the Comboni Missionaries in January 2023. It is in line with the 2015 encyclical letter “Laudato Si” by Pope Francis, which emphasizes ecological conversion. Central to this plan is the advancement of ecological balance, environmental stewardship, and human welfare through grassroots engagement, innovative solutions to green growth and climate change mitigation measures.

As an organization dedicated to promoting a cleaner environment, supporting nature conservation, and mitigating the effects of climate change on vulnerable populations, LSCC coordinates initiatives for the advancement of both the environment and humankind. In addition to working with the Institute of the Comboni Missionary Sisters (CMS), Catholic Workers Movement of Mbuya Parish, the organization interacts with people who are dedicated to ecological conversion in communities, public and private institutions, and individuals. The LSCC’ overarching goal is to ensure ecological balance, combat climate change, and empower communities by promoting sustainable livelihoods, adaptive capacity, and innovative solutions throughout Uganda.

The organization is managed by a Board of Governors composed of people of different backgrounds and experiences. The BOG is headed by the Provincial Superior of the Comboni Missionaries in Uganda.

  1. What we do

To improve lives and protect ecosystems, the Comboni Missionaries founded the Laudato Si Centre Comboni in Uganda, which is an apostolate for the Trustees of the Verona Fathers in Uganda. The LSCC’s objectives are to:

  1. Drive innovation and entrepreneurship focusing on food security, the blue economy, climate resilience, marine waste management, renewable energy, clean cooking, and aquaculture in Uganda’s ecclesiastical provinces.
  2. Strengthen resilience, reduce emissions, and enhance climate change adaptability for sustainable development throughout the region.
  3. Restore damaged ecosystems and protect existing ones, maintaining the integrity of nature’s balance.
  4. Expand the knowledge base on the environment and promote information sharing to inform effective actions, environmental education, and increased public awareness.
  1. Membership

Volunteers and members of Laudato Si, subscribers, friends of LSCC, LSCC chapters and Three Zero Clubs in schools make up the diverse membership of Laudato Si Centre Comboni Uganda (LSCC).  The Laudato Si Three Zero Clubs offer a forum for cooperation and involvement on ecological issues, demonstrating a shared dedication to the Laudato Si tenets and the mission of the Comboni missionaries. Individual volunteers, motivated by purpose and a desire for positive impact, enhance LSCC’s efforts, contributing to a holistic approach covering capacity development, community sensitization, agriculture, afforestation, youth, and gender empowerment.

Together, LSCC members form a dynamic community with a shared vision of integral ecology, dedicated to the well-being of both humanity and the environment. Their active participation reflects a collective dedication to positive change and sustainable practices, in alignment with Pope Francis’ encyclical, Laudato Si, 2015
