St. Cecilia Choir Mbuya
St. Cecilia Choir animates the 7:00 am Luganda Mass at Our Lady of Africa Church Mbuya.
Establishment: The Choir was started in the late 1970s by Monsignor Expedit Magembe now based at Mt. Sion Prayer Centre, Bukalango. He was at the time a Seminarian at Ggaba Major Seminary and would always come to take the choir through singing practices.
Governance: Rev. Fr. Paul Sera, the then Parish Priest was the Choir Patron. Some of the other previous patrons were Dr. Samula, Mr. Henry Matovu to mention, but two. Mrs. Florence Mawejje is our current Patron. Dr. Godfrey Okot is the Chairman, Board of Trustees. A number of Chairpersons have led the Choir since then; including Ms. Namirembe (RIP), Mr. Mathias Kato Ssekiziyivu, Mrs. Harriet Oloya, Mr. Joseph Muganga, Mr. Vicent Asiimwe, Mr. John Frank Kisekka, Mr. Michael Kasozi and currently Ms. Claire Kagga. Some of the Choir Directors included; Monsignor Expedit Magembe, Mr. Kawooya (RIP), Mr. Expedit Kaaya, and currently Mr. Deogratias Nakabaale Ssekiziyivu.
The choir is comprised of forty (40) members and sings in all languages. In addition to masses, the Choir also sings Carols (Christmas, Easter, and Marian), during weddings, Baptism, Graduation parties, Thanksgiving, funerals and any other joyful or sorrowful functions or events.
Joining the choir: All willing Christians are welcome to join the choir at no cost. We practice on Sundays after mass and every Thursday starting at 5:30 pm.
